Art is very fundamental to being alive

With great sadness I report that Colin Lanceley has passed away in Sydney, after suffering a long illness. During his ailing health and unquestioning need to continue his art, he is reported as saying: “I have so many things that I want to say as an artist…  Art is very fundamental to being alive“.

  • The  image on the left is entitled “Where All the Waters Meet” (Metung) oil, timber & turned wood on canvas.

Born in New Zealand in 1938, Lanceley came to Australia two years later, in 1940. After 20 years or more, he spent many years in the UK, from 1965-1981.

Apart from the many Australian galleries which display his work, Lanceley is also represented in US, UK and European collections, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

  • The image on the right is from “Harvest“, 1983; an oil and assemblage on canvas 85cm x 134cm.
