Hoo knows this Owl?

trevor turbo brown - owl dreamingThis is “Owl Dreaming” (2011), Brunswick Melbourne. Synthetic polymer paint on canvas by Trevor ‘Turbo’ Brown, Latje Latje (born 1967). It is part of the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria, purchased with funds donated by Judith and Leon Gorr, (2012).

  • According to the write-up at the Gallery about this wondrous night bird it states that:

“Brown depicts his Dreaming, the Owl, in close-up, resplendent and secure in its verdant natural environment. Working intuitively with spontaneous brushstrokes, he creates a vivid impression of the owl’s characteristic features, based on close observation. In accord with Brown’s other representations of native animals, he imagines the Owl in his home country near Mildura in its pre-contact habitat, before all the land was cleared away”.

Hoo knows if that was what the Owl was thinking…
