(1978) exhibition print from colour transparency State Library of Victoria (Courtesy of the Rennie Ellis Photographic Archive). Madeleine ‘Mirka’ Mora was born in 1928 to Jewish parents of Lithuanian and Romanian heritage. Her art practice encompasses a wide variety of media, including painting, drawing, textile sculptures, tapestries and ceramics. Pictured here at home, she is surrounded by a range of dolls and soft sculptural pieces that reference her recurring motifs of angels, children, snakes, devils, dogs and birds. Mora’s naive style, bold lines and use of vibrant colour reflect the sensual joie de vivre that characterises both her life and art.
