Dante Gabriel Rosetti 1872 canvas 85x67cm Manchester City Art Gallery. The models for the two girls in the foreground were Maria Stillman (also a painter) and Alexa Wilding. The rich colours and languourous mood of the painting are typical of Rossetti’s work at this period. the landscape background was originally apined in November 1850 at Knolenear Sevenoaks, Kent for a picture of Dante and Beatrice in Paradise.
