Supposedly, tomorrow is “World Toilet Day“. The concept is to help alleviate sanitation problems and raise money to save lives in poorer worldwide communities. It was approved by the UN General Assembly in 2013 with Water Aid as its major champion.
A local businessman who is a co-founder of “Who Gives a Crap” has produced a Christmas-themed toilet paper which he describes as “the ultimate crappy gift for someone that’s got absolutely everything … because you get a lot of crappy gifts at Christmas”. (Well said!). Half of the profits from his sales are handed to Water Aid to build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world.
Water Aid’s ultimate aim is to help a family in a developing country to design and build a hygienic pit toilet with the money provided through the campaign. That way, access to the basics of clean, safe, water, toilets and hygiene can lead to one of the most important steps in preventing disease.
